Ethiopia - Yirgacheffe Gola

SMS PLC is a coffee company established in 1998, with roots in the Sidamo and Yirgacheffe regions of Ethiopia. The owner brought over a decade of prior experience in coffee production to the business, which today supports numerous smallholder farmers through two washing stations and a dry mill in Sidamo, along with additional facilities in Yirgacheffe.

Coffees delivered to SMS are typically sorted, weighed, and processed at their own facility, which includes a quality control lab and integrated inspection system. Washed coffees are depulped the same day they are received, fermented, washed, and then dried on raised beds. Drying times vary depending on weather conditions but typically fall within standard regional ranges.

The mills operated by SMS have been active for more than 28 years, and the company employs 54 permanent staff along with over 140 seasonal laborers during harvest. In 2007, SMS received first place in the "Taste of Cupping" competition with a Washed Yirgacheffe coffee.

Known for its consistency, quality, and commitment to Ethiopian coffee heritage, SMS continues to play a key role in both the specialty and commercial markets.
